"It pained me to leave that old house. A sense of homesickness followed me out the door—a deep need to return to some place I've never really been."

I couldn't have said 'it' any better. A lovely read.

That was a lovely read, partially because it was laced with just enough pathos and yearning for what beauty is still here and what we can see we will be losing shortly. At least that is what welled up in me, as I read your tale. It put me in mind of one of my favorite books, Blue Highways. You’ve a definite gift, and I look forward to reading more of your work.

Most poignant part of your writing, "Looking back, it’s hard to believe our rulers ever let us go where we wanted and do what we pleased."

Fantastic writing! This literally cracked me up:

“Think of how Londoners feel when Muslims arrive and demand the British legal system to accommodate Sharia,” I replied. Typical of his caste, he refused to see the connection.

Joe, thanks for the great story telling!! It is insightful to me to have been given a taste of your earlier writings. Your style is crisp, colorful and demonstrable of your wit and humor. I look forward to your upcoming book. Keep the tales coming, please...!!!

Enjoyed reading this piece. Quite a change from the dark articles future. Of course then you had to go there in the end.

Funny thing is, the cameras and drones will be in the metro areas while the cities will remain shitholes and I'll still be living like The Brethren here in rural Missouri. Most of us living in Ozarks hill country don't even get a cell phone signal.

Sounds like a stoner traveling cross country and discovering places change but folks never do. I enjoyed your perspective and detailed experience of the untouched nature trails with a twist! Life goes on my friend. As once said in an old movie "Life is a banquet and half the suckers out there are starving!"

Very nice. Im trying to get back to simpler times and appreciated reading this. Was in Nashville recently and they still have the bombed area blocked off.

Just ran into a young man outside who was walking with his mask on. The propaganda really did a number on these people.

Typo: ““That's when the city boy said: ‘Is that a haybale or a horseshoe?’” — and have em’ rolling **in** the floor.”

The “in” in “in the floor” was probably intended to be “on.”

——-

“I’m told that WiFi junkies circled McDonald’s parking lots like vultures, seeking connection.”

A funny piece as usual, thank you.
